Tour and Explore the Legendary Mt. Washington Auto Road!
Guided Tours offer a unique opportunity to learn the true nature and history of Mt. Washington and the Auto Road. Driven by one of our accomplished guides, your “stage driver” will offer stories, anecdotes, legends, history and insight into the ecological wonder of Mt. Washington as well as point out interesting features on your trip to the summit.
The summit of the mountain is the Mt. Washington State Park where you can visit the Sherman Adams Visitors Center, with panoramic views from the observation deck, gift shops, cafeteria and restrooms inside. On the lower level is the Mount Washington Observatory’s, “Extreme Mt. Washington“, an interactive display of just what it’s like on top of this mountain in winter!
Walk around outside to enjoy Mt. Washington’s famous weather, walk through the historic Tip Top House, built in 1853 as a hotel, take in the Summit Stage Office, that’s the one chained to the ground, and get your picture taken on the actual summit at 6,288’!
Two-Hour Guided Tour
Two-hour Guided Tours include a 1/2 hour drive to the summit with several brief stops along the way, a 1 hour stop on the summit where you are on your own to explore the peak of the highest mountain in the Northeast, then a 1/2 hour return trip to the base.
Two-hour tours are available without reservation from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM (8:30 AM until 4:00 PM after Sept 27), weather permitting. Reservations are not required but are available online for trips leaving at 9:00 am – and those reservations for these early tours will save you $5 per person! (must be made at least 24 hours in advance of your arrival). One-way hiker shuttles are also available.
Other than the early reserved tours, our tours run on a first come, first served basis and we make every effort to provide our guests with a tour as soon as possible.
