As of 10.23.2014 the Auto Road is now CLOSED for the season. Thank you for a wonderful summer! Take an exciting trip this winter on the Mt. Washington SnowCoach!
Get the sticker! You’ve seen them…well, everywhere. Now, get your own.
But, it’s more than just the “This Car Climbed Mount Washington” bumper sticker. It’s about a new experience at every turn. Even if you’ve already driven the Auto Road, you won’t have the same drive twice. Weather, foliage, views…they’re always changing.
Due to its remarkable location, weather, and history, the Mt Washington Auto Road is unlike any other driving experience in the Eastern United States.
The constantly-changing weather adds to the allure and mystique of the famous peak, often allowing visitors to experience high winds and dramatic cloud formations. With an average grade of 12%, one mile of gravel road (usually hard packed) at mid mountain, and tree-line at only 4,000 feet, this is one of the most spectacular drives you can partake in. If you are a first time visitor who is not comfortable with heights, narrow mountain roads without guardrails, you may enjoy a comfortable guided tour rather than driving your own vehicle.
Visiting often? We have a season pass. It also makes a great gift for the Auto Road enthusiast in your life.
We now have an electric charging station on property. It’s a Clipper Creek CS-90 that all electric cars can use and it is located on the lodge side of Rt 16 (opposite to the entrance where you drive yourself). It’s on the left side of the Red Barn Museum behind the lodge. Currently there is no cost but we do appreciate donations which can be made at the station. Feel free to share any photos at the station on our Facebook page!
Your driving adventure includes an audio tour on CD that shares classic tales about the road’s history, geography, legends and lore.
