Average 12%, multiple lengths of 18% sustained, last 50 yards of course are 22%.
Official timing ends at 3 hours and 5 minutes after the start (12:05 PM). Please do not enter if you suspect you are unable to complete the course in that time. All runners still on course past this time will be untimed as they finish.
The race is a competitive mountain running race and has an official time limit of 3:05 from cannon fire. We are reestablishing the strict time limit policy of not recording the race time of any race participant who finishes beyond that time.
While times beyond the the time limit have been recorded in the previous few years, this year we have chosen to commit to our long-standing time limit policy. We will ask participants during the registration process to agree they are aware and understand that official timing will stop at 3:05 after the start of the race.
All race winning times for all groups, overall winners, age group, records, and teams will be based on cannon time not net time. All of our current records are from the time the cannon roars and we will continue with that tradition. Net time is provided only as information to the runner. However, any runner who does not have an electronically recorded start time may forfeit their race and have their race time subject to review regarding winning or placing in any category.
The minimum age for participation is 14 years of age on the date of the race.
Four stations on course will offer water: Mile 1.25, 2.75, halfway, and mile 6. Water will also be available at the base and summit.
Emergency Medical Services will be available at the base, halfway and at the summit. The medical team will be in contact with aid stations via Auto Road stages and HAM radio operators. If you need assistance, please seek the nearest race staff, volunteer or HAM radio operator.
The weather on the mountain can be extreme, even in June. BE PREPARED! Due to the extreme exposure above treeline, consider bringing extra clothes (mittens, windbreaker, hat, etc.) when you run. Plan to send warm clothes to the summit with your support driver to wear after you cross the finish line.
There will be a weather update, including summit temperature and wind chill, posted on site prior to the race (also listen for PA broadcasts). Washington are only available 24 hours in advance).
Beginning in 2005, there have been strict occupancy limits at the Sherman Adams state park building, where participants had previously gathered in large numbers. In addition to the race participants and supporters, the Sherman Adams building must support hikers and Cog Railway passengers. With a safe capacity of 250 individuals, it’s not possible to accommodate all 1000+ participants and race supporters. Please confine personal belongings to your vehicle or the vehicle of your support driver. When at capacity state park personnel only allow people to enter as others leave the building. Race staff will be encouraging those inside the building to keep their stay brief, to allow others access the buildings facilities. Portable toilets, a water station, commemorative fleece blankets and first aid will be provided at the summit, outside the Sherman Adams building. NO SUMMIT BAG DROP-OFF
There is no designated bag drop-off area at the summit. It is expected that support drivers contain racers' bags and possesions in their vehicles, or have them on their person, when their racer(s) arrives at the summit. Please do not abandon your racer's bag at the summit, as it may limit their access to warm clothing or could result in their possesions being lost or stolen. The Mt. Washington Auto Road is not responsible for lost, stolen or misplaced belongings.
TRAFFIC ON COURSE
Runners may encounter a limited number of number of vehicles on the course during the race. This includes Auto Road stages, EMS Staff, and HAM radio communications staff. Drivers are instructed to use extreme caution.
In recent years, the use of ear-buds and headphones on course during the event has increased dramatically. For your safety, it is our recommendation that you do not run with ear-buds or headphones on course during the race, as there are a number of vehicles that you could encounter (Auto Road vehicles, EMS staff, HAM radio operators, photographers and videographers).
Baby strollers of any kind are not permitted on the Mt. Washington Auto Road at anytime during the course of the event.
NO dogs will be allowed into the festival area. This includes the start area and the event tents that host the post race lunch and awards. Dogs are allowed on the summit but must be on leashes at all times. Your dog must be in a summit-bound vehicle in order to be allowed. We encourage you to be kind and leave your pet at home.

Commercial Photography on the Mt. Washington Auto Road and at Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center is strictly prohibited unless advance permission has been granted. Please contact the Event Director for further information. This applies to all activities and events taking place on the property. Violators will be prosecuted.
